Our brain is a machine. We laid down the hard-wired connections according to what we believed, logically, would satisfy. Only now are we realizing that they do not. Only now are we noting our heart’s pain and longing.
Science tells us our mind is not located in our body. Scripture says we have the mind of Christ. Our challenge is to hear our heart’s desire. Our heart knows, but we often override it and listen to our brain. What is logical? What will make friends? What will not ruffle feathers? What will keep life copacetic?
We have a choice to live authentically. As we listen to our heart, as we engage with the mind of Christ, as we “think upon these things”, our truths and longings, we can begin to unravel the neural mess within our brains and re-lay tracks that honor who we are.
You were created a masterpiece. Why would you diminish yourself for measly scraps from others; for that is what you are chasing when you follow your brain and not your heart. Rise up, override the automated brain. Know your heart. Allow and encourage yourself to be the masterpiece. Honor yourself, your values, your truths. Don’t compromise so quickly. Learn that “no” is one of the most wonderful words in the world, for it is the word that protects the fullness of who you are.
Led by your heart – His heart – fused together as one, there will be things you “do”, but they will be Holy Spirit led and will serve to increase, not decrease you. You may just be the miracle another needs. You may be the trailblazer that others learn from, that they, too, can be free to be their masterpiece.
Keep white space on the pages of your life. Do not let others manipulate or put demands upon you which shrink you. I promise those “empty” spaces will be filled and be a joy to you and others.
