IN THE MOVIE, The Replacements, when the starting quarterback crosses the strike line and returns to play, the owner lets Falco go; Falco, the “scab”. The fill-in, star-college quarterback that never made it to the pros. Falco, with heart. Falco, the glue that bound a rag-tag group of have-beens and never-could-have-been football players together. The football strike was ending tomorrow and they were playing their last game together. Without Falco. With the Pro. And they were losing, 17-0 at the half. The star could not hold the team together. He was unable to draw from the scabs, the skills and abilities that they did not possess. To do that apparently required something more than being just great yourself. As the team leaves the field, a reporter asks Coach what they need to do to win. Coach McGinty says, “heart, you’ve got to have heart to get back into this ball game.” And during the half-time break, Heart arrives. Falco was watching the game, heard the interview and made his way back to the stadium. Coach replaces the arrogant, technique-perfect star with the scab and the team unites around this man, around heart, and the men perform above and beyond any and every expectation. They should not have won. No way. No how. But they did. Heart drew from each, releasing their greatness within.
There is a truth here. Most of us do not appreciate the fullness of our worth. Growing up in a world that values perfection we grow up failures, might-have-beens and wannabes. No matter how much we try, there is always someone better. No matter how much effort we invest, we are led to believe that we could have tried harder. The result? Henry David Thoreau said it well. “The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation.” We live stunted and stifled. We fear failure and stop living to the fullest of our possibilities.
But one day, Heart arrives. Jesus enters your reality. The Father had been drawing you and wooing you, and finally you opened the door a crack to see if His love was real. As you peered out, the brilliance of Love captured you. You met Him, you were introduced to His Son and you were embraced by His Heart. You found yourself wrapped in love. A love that has always been for you and sees the lies you believe. Love that desires to replace these lies with truth. Alone, your greatest hopes remained only dreams grown dim over the years. Amidst His love, fused heart-to-heart, all is possible. The Lover has arrived. He shares His heart with you and draws from within you more than you ever dared dream. In Him, with Him, you are no longer a has-been or wannabe but experience every potential, possible.

My heart's desire is to walk with people until they believe every good thing that God says about them. This happens as they are introduced to intimate relationship with the lover of their soul.

I love living in Utah with my husband and know a Broadway song appropriate for every occasion in life. I  typically get jokes two minutes after they are told.
